Best known as a drummer who sings, Joey Simonton spent many years around Charleston WV playing jazz, funk, rock and dance tunes in bands like The Kind, Panama Rose, Convertible Blonds, The Mojos, Mother’s Nature, River Jam and others. As a music education major at WV SU in the early 90’s, he worked full time and went to school full time, and still found time to play music, and be a competitive mountain bike racer. He went on to complete his Master’s Degree in School Counseling and then started a food truck manufacturing company, which he still operates in Nashville. He also owned the restaurants Lettuce Eat in the early 2000’s with a friend, and then he and his wife Jocelyn opened Genesis Cafe in downtown Charleston in 2017, which they operated for just under 1 year. But music remained his passion.
He had long wanted to front a big band that had a huge horn and rhythm section sound and was a different from the average wedding or show band. Moving to Nashville in 2021, Simonton was determined to put something together that would fill that desire. With a pool of some of the world’s greatest players and vocalists in the area, he knew that Face Value would have something special to offer when he put it all together. Months of preparation, logistical challenges and rehearsals have resulted in a spectacular show that people of all ages can be a part of. Face Value-A Tribute to Phil Collins is an experience that you will surely remember, and want to be a part of again.
